Sweet Beginnings: Choosing wedding colors

For Brides

In a world full of beauty, it can be overwhelming and sometimes challenging to select your wedding colors. You want to be true to yourselves, classic, somewhat different and fun all at the same time. When AJP and I were choosing our palette, I went through multiple variations. Then, after finally deciding, discovered that I had chosen the world’s hardest blue to find in a fabric! I feel  your frustration, sweet bride. I do. That is why I have gathered a few tips over the years to help guide you to your perfect wedding colors!

Sweet-Beginnings-Color-Selection

First of all, think of your favorite colors, seasons, adventures (both of you!). Try to pull general color families from those. One note of caution- you do not have to stick with a color palette for the season you marry in. The whole point is for you wedding to speak to your love story and personalities. I’m not saying that a beach theme wedding in the snow is a good idea, but you don’t necessarily have to do cool tones either. Stay true to yourselves.

If you have a Pinterest board or any photo inspiration collection, lay them all out, squint at it and see if there is a common theme or color palette. More often than not, you will see a pattern. If you look through almost any of my boards or anywhere in our house, you will almost always find a shade of blue, pink, grey, white or teal. With.out.fail. Admittedly, I went a bit more autumnal with those colors for our day, but you do not have to.

Speaking of pattern, maybe you are a graphic person. Choose a meaningful graphic, monogram or pattern that you could build around. Pair that with a mood color or complimentary symbol to create something truly original for you and your love. For example, if you love the idea of a night under the stars and want to use that pattern and you got engaged at the lake, maybe you’d like a sunset palette with some midnight blue and silver accents. Get creative!
